Valyn's current character sheet

Valyn Melkeenian is a former soldier serving in Duke Parvellian's forces, who has now dedicated his life to the service of Pelor. Whilst stationed in a small outpost in the shadow of the Brightpeak Mountains, Valyn's squad was attacked by Necromancers. Although ultimately victorious, Valyn was forced to fight against the twisted bodies of his fallen allies, reanimated in a cruel mockery of their former selves. This experience instilled a great hatred of the Undead within Valyn, and acted as a catalyst for his new life of devotion to the Sun God.

On the 20th Jalin 1425 Valyn began to experience vivid nightmares, once again bringing him back to the disturbing encounter with the Necromancers. A conversation with Rodan Jard, a fellow priest of Pelor and member of the adventuring party The Wyvern's Talon, offered an interesting insight. Rodan had recently returned to Ventelas after thwarting the plans of a group of Necromancers know as the Cult of the Goat. Disciples of the despicable Demon Prince Orcus, this group planned to commit an atrocity in the peaceful village of Little Dingle. They were put to the sword by the Wyvern's Talon before they could bring their plans to fruition, but Valyn and Rodan surmised that there could be some connection - especially as the nightmares had begun on Orcus's "unholy day", a period when his power was at its highest and his followers competed to cause mayhem in his name.

Valyn becomes convinced that something terrible has happened at his former output, and asks to take Rodan's place in the Wyvern's Talon. He sets about convincing them to join him on an expedition to investigate the old fortress.
